AS A MOTORSPORT SAFETY SOURCE . . . 

The Stand 21 Racing Goes Safer Driver Safety Foundation is a non-profit organization with a primary purpose of promoting enhanced motor racing safety. It aims to achieve this goal in collaboration with medical and scientific bodies, professional drivers and major racing series’ entities (FIA, SFI, NHRA, SCTA, SCCA, SCORE…) in order to bring awareness of safety issues, and offer solutions to the forefront of the motor racing world.

Fire Protection, Heat Stress, and Electric Vehicle Racing Safety

The safety foundation that has brought you such motorsports safety pioneers as Doctors John Melvin, Terry Trammell, and Steven Olvey, and hero drivers including Jackie Ickx, Danny Sullivan, Tony Stewart, and Larry Dixon, returned to the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach with yet another incredible selection of speakers.

Dr. Claude Meistelman, Eric Huhn of UNC Charlotte, and professional driver Boris Said rounded out the 2024 Racing Goes Safer panel. Read the full review!

Vintage Motorsport Council (VMC)
Biannual Meeting


February 28, 2024 - Phoenix, AZ

Yves Morizot and Don Taylor spoke about safety at the Vintage Motorsports Council's biannual meeting held in Phoenix on Saturday, 24 February, at the request of VMC President John Bechtol and event organizer Gill Campbell.

The Vintage Motorsport Council (VMC) was formed as a council for all the independent racing organizations devoted to vintage racing. Since that time, the Council has met twice each year to discuss and provide solutions to our mutual industry problems and opportunities.

It is our honor to return to PRI annually to share the importance of racing safety with growing audiences from all corners of the racing industry. The 2023 PRI Show included many important events for the Stand 21 Racing Goes Safer Foundation. Dr. Terry Trammell and Jim Downing Receive Stand 21 Safety Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Eric Huhn and Don Taylor attend the Race Track Business Conference (RTBC), and lead a panel  with Track Operators, Promotors, and Sanctioning Body (TOPS) to discuss EV Racing Safety. RGS brings together the past, present, and future with their latest safety seminar featuring Jim Downing, Marco Petrilli, the FIA’s Deputy Safety Director, and more!

Since the late 1800s, where there have been cars, there have been people wanting to race cars. More than a century later, electric vehicles are becoming increasingly commonplace on our streets. Naturally, electric vehicle racing is following close behind. Many advancements in motorsports safety have come about from lessons learned over the years. And most recently, we have seen the safety issues associated with electric vehicles on the streets. Today the motorsports industry is in a perfect position to prepare for those issues on track!

Racing Goes Safer is proud to have partnered with the North Carolina Battery Complexity, Autonomous Vehicle and Electrification Research Center (BATT CAVE) at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte to bring you the next installation of our Electric Vehicle Safety Series! In an effort to bring more awareness to EV Racing safety issues, we are proud to partner with Eric Huhn to help provide answers to your EV questions. Eric is UNC Charlotte’s facility and laboratory Safety Director, and a trackside firefighter at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Eric is well versed in EV Racing safety issues, and the fires that often accompany them.
